Women STRUT for Women is a yearly event that celebrates International Women’s Day and benefits Fred Victor Women’s Services. Oh, and it’s also a ton of fun.
Entering its third year, the event is part fashion show, part dance show, part snack fest, and all for a good cause. This time around the theme is Bollywood, so expect Bollywood dancers, as well as clothing from 69 Vintage, fascinator hats by KC’s Hats by David Dunkley, shoes from Nine West, wine from STRUT Wines, and tapas from The Berkeley’s chefs. The will be hosted by CBC News Network anchor Suhana Meharchand and takes place next Thursday, March 7 at The Berkeley (315 Queen St. E.). Everything kicks off at 6pm, and proceeds go to Fred Victor Women’s Shelter and Day Program.
Fred Victor, founded in 1894, is a non-profit social services organization with 10 service cites across Toronto, and works with individuals who are on the street, living in shelters, or who have extremely low or no income. Services include advocacy for renters or finding shelter, food access, health information, and job training; every day, over 1,000 people use Fred Victor services. Fred Victor’s Women’s Day Program in particular provides women with informational counselling, a clothing room, shower and laundry facilities, food, first aid and hygiene supplies, arts and crafts, organized outings, and information/referrals for housing and shelter, income support, legal advice, mental health and medical services, and food access.
