Why we like: What are you? What’s your background? The question is getting increasingly difficult to respond to with complete accuracy, while being detailed and precise. I’m not trying to be complicated, sound exotic or impress anyone. My mother’s side is Russian and Polish, while my Father’s side is Hungarian and Czech.  But of course, we must have some African American genetics in our blood – my Mother looks undeniably Mulatto. She’s got all the traits!  Remember Denise from Full House? Yes, I too have acquired many of these traits – especially as a child with long kinky curls and dark olive skin. As each generation of our families branch further from our “home base” there must be some way to recreate our heritage without working with fractions along the way. Meet: We Are Multicolored.

What you’ll find there: Three profound questions; Where is your home? What other country has affected you? Where have you dreamed of going? Each question has a drop down menu, where you select the country/ answer that suits you best. The program amalgamates all three replies, and allows you to reconstruct your own personal flag.

Where in the world: Project by The Tenement Museum in Lower East Side NYC.

In a nutshell: An interactive website, that allows you to tell your own story through stars, stripes, leaves, crosses and other symbolic flag-like imagery. Your story can be as light-hearted or deep as you like – then share your story with others.
