Travel plans scrapped this summer? Well, you can pretend to take a trip to Cali by heading to Venice Beach Bar, a welcomed summertime addition to the Dundas West strip that allows Torontonians to (safely) socialize in a stylish outdoor setting.
The food + drink pop-up is the brainchild of two local establishments: Unboxed Market and Mordecai Bar. Tastefully done, it’s a true example of local businesses coming together to make the best of a difficult time, while also giving people a great option for a night out, that feels like a mini escape.
Yes, it’s a parking lot, but it’s a deep one, with pretty pastel iron gates, cute string lighting, and painted picnic benches that are protected by good-looking brick walls.
“We always wanted to see the lot become a place where the neighbourhood could gather,” shared Michelle Genttner of Unboxed Market. “When Covid-19 hit we knew that outdoor spaces would be the primary social spaces for our community at least for the summer, and we thought the lot would be a perfect way to offer a little slice of that vacation feeling for those who can’t get out of the city.”
The food program features Californian summer-inspired items, with options for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diners, as well as meat-lovers. Drinks are designed to transport you to sunset on the beach, with cold beers and ciders, refreshing wines, and slushie cocktails for all.
