Lydia Persaud’s soulful new single “Good For Us” is mellow, smooth, and shows off the Toronto singer-songwriter’s stunning, mesmerizing voice. Sun-soaked, soft, and with a 70’s vibe, the accompanying video likewise goes down easy, and feels nourishing.
Persaud wrote the song during a tense and challenging chapter on tour. “Good For Us” is about taking time to connect with ourselves, our desires, to find peace and get clarity. “The pride that comes from making the right decision for ourselves, whether it’s deciding not to engage in bad communication or taking some space to gain clarity – these are moments that are worth celebrating, this is growth,” Persaud shares. “That is what my new anthem, ‘Good For Us,’ is about. Playful, with a bit of a que sera, sera attitude.”
The song also talks about co-dependency and how relationships benefit when individuals take time away from each other, to work on themselves, explore desires, or simply rest and just be. Persaud’s given us a comforting and breakthrough therapy session in subdued tones of pink, brown and blue.
With transcending vocals that seem to effortlessly move from jazz, to soul, to folk, Lydia’s always been highly sought after as a collaborator. She’s worked with everyone, including icons like Gordon Lightfoot, David Crosby, and Lee Fields, as well as opened for Serena Ryder, Sarah Harmer, and Joey Landreth.
We’re huge fans of her independent music, and have also followed her as a longstanding member in renowned 10-piece cover band Dwayne Gretzky.
In “Good For Us” Persaud’s hope is that listeners feel supported. We feel that.
