There is no heat in my apartment. I’m currently snuggling up with my new friend—a hot water bottle—and typing away on a very cold computer. My Macbook has turned into a Popsicle and this polar vortex feels like a really bad joke. I call this weeks cocktail “Broken Furnace,” it’s a dressed up Dark and Stormy.
The good news is that on Sunday, March 9th, we set our clocks forward. It’ll probably still feel like we’re trapped inside an ice cube but at least we can freeze in extended daylight!
Are you guys as excited as I am for my summer cocktail entitled “Awkward Heat Rash?” Yeah, I thought so.
Method:
1 ½ ounces of rum
3 ounces of Owl’s Brew classic tea mix
1 egg white
1 ounce ginger beer
squeeze of lime juice
Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add the rum, Owls Brew, an egg white, a squeeze of lime juice and Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters. Shake and strain into a coupe glass. Top with an ounce of ginger beer and garnish with candied ginger.
The Owl’s Brew mix, jigger and glasses are from BYOB Cocktail Emporium. The ginger beer is from Caribbean Corner (171 Baldwin) in Kensington Market, where you can get 12 big bottles for 10 dollars.
