Nuit Blanche Piece: Ghost Circus: A Dirge for Dead Slang
What inspired your contribution to Nuit Blanche this year?
I really wanted do a piece that glowed in the dark. The rest of the elements of the work were taken from things I am working on right now in my art practice, and the parameters of NB itself.
What do you hope people will experience when they see it?
I really hope some viewers will be interested in sticking around and listening to and watching the work, and enjoy being sort of transported by it. It can be quite hypnotic.
Nuit Blanche aside, what’s the most amazing, surreal 3 am experience you’ve ever had?
Hmm, maybe last summer, the night of that gas plant explosion, hearing that –boom– when I was on a friend’s rooftop patio during a party, and then walking home that eeearly a.m. and seeing the B-I-G-G-E-S-T rainbow ever.
Where will you be at dawn on Sunday?
In Larry Sefton Park, weeping gently into my sleeve.
You’ve got $100,000 to spend on throwing your ideal art event-what do you do?
Ooooh, that is such an exciting proposition that I’d like more time to consider it! I’d love to work with my sister–she’s such a visionary (www.swandiamondrose.com) and has good taste for big stuff like that… It would need to be a serious gesamtkunstwerk sort of situation. I’d would need to include the auditory–maybe Planningtorock (http://www.myspace.com/planningtorock) and Final Fantasy. Maybe some giant iridescent, glow-in-the-dark fun globe could be constructed, sort of like Barbapapa meets Phantom of the Paradise. What happens next, I am not sure…
