Shedoesthecity was proud to support The Boys and Girls Club in the Friends of Naturalizer campaign, but it was WaterCan that received the most votes and won $20, 000. It was fun to cheer for an organization that provides safe places for children to learn and grow, but we are certainly happy to see the funds raised go to a WaterCan.
WaterCan is dedicated to fighting global poverty by helping the world’s poorest people gain access to clean water, basic sanitation and hygiene education.
How did this program work? Beyond publicity and social media, a selected group of influential blogs (including us!) from across North America helped promote the Friends of Naturalizer campaign by aligning with a particular charity, spreading awareness about that charity, and communicating how to get involved with the campaign to respective followers. Between April 7-11 people could vote for the cause that most inspired them. The charity that received the most votes within that period received $1 from every shoe or handbag sold within that window of time, up to $20,000.
When first approached to get involved, we weren’t sure that the Shedoesthecity demo fit with the Naturalizer brand, but were obviously interested in supporting a good cause. However, after browsing their site, we discovered that Naturalizer has an impressive selection of wedges, sandals, flats and oxfords that appeal to us. It’s not just for mom! Beyond that, we were able to also learn more about three charities and share that with our readers. And our feet won’t hurt. Win-win-win!
If every company were able to find innovative and creative solutions to connect their sales with giving back, the world would be a better place.
Congrats to WaterCan.
Happy Earth Day!
