Toronto designer Hayley Elsaesser is theming her candy-coloured SS18 collection Teenage Wasteland, in reference to The Who’s lyrics in “Baba O’Riley,” declaring the show a “vision of post-apocalyptic optimism.” We believe it, and we hope for it.
Like in past shows, Hayley brought together both agency models as well as humans she admires to walk the runway. Trans photographer Wynne Neilly, former model Rachel Romu (who was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in 2016 and now walks with a cane), Humble The Poet, ballet teacher Anne Collins (sister and muse to Petra Collins), seventeen-year-old singer Ehboni, and SickKids ICU nurse Adria Taylor all made up the badass gang that stormed the runway.
Dice, crabs, bikes, cell phones: the playful prints with which Hayley’s experiments knows no bounds. While she may be working with the Teenage Wasteland theme, we think the look is a little more Disco Lemonade. Show up in a Hayley print to the party, and you are the party.
Styling by Sandy Gill aka The Sandy Lion, shoes by Nike, nails by Holden Grace: this collection was sweet and sassy head to toe, with an energy that inspires you to fly.
Right on, Hayley. When the apocalypse hits, we’ll meet you on the island.
