So You Think You Can Dance Canada premiered last week-and the excitement is only just beginning. Auditions continue across the country: catch them tonight at 8 pm on CTV or Sunday on Muchmusic. We sat down with host Leah Miller to talk about all things dance-related: from her favourite moves to attempt in the privacy of her own home to which performance on the show has moved her the most.
What is the best part about being involved in So You Think You Can Dance Canada?
The best part is being the host of a show that I’m such a huge fan of. I’ve been watching the US version for years.
If you could be a chorus girl in any musical, what would it be?
Chicago.
If you could be a backup dancer for anyone, who would it be?
Beyonce – she’s such a great performer.
What moves have you tried to re-create in the privacy of your own home?
Well…occasionally I do split jumps in my kitchen!
If you could master any style of dance, what would it be?
Definitely contemporary. It’s such a beautiful style of dance.
If you could be a participant on a reality TV show – what one would you want to go on?
Dancing with the stars even though I’m not a star. Although most of the people that they have on aren’t always “stars” either!
What performance so far has blown you away the most?
It’s hard to pick but the piece Melissa Williams choreographed for Nico & Arrasay to Queen’s Somebody to Love gave me goosebumps. It was an unbelievable routine.
With all that glitter-any disastrous backstage costume malfunctions?
The dancers always have little things happen here and there because they’re moving around so much. I’ve actually had some myself. For some reason, I always snag my dress on something so a couple of them ripped during our tapings.
What music gets you excited to get to work?
Rihanna and Alexisonfire
If you could pick any dance partner – dead or alive – who would it be?
Justin Timberlake – he has some good moves.
What is happiness to you?
Being with the people I love.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Watching Ghost Whisperer which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt. It’s the perfect Friday night TV show.
