Head to the ROM tomorrow evening (Wednesday, September 26) for #MeToo & the Arts, an important panel featuring leaders in the arts community. The panel will dive into gender and power dynamics in the context of art institutions and the role they play in light of the larger debate concerning art and artists during the time of the #MeToo, Time’s Up and #AfterMeToo movements.
Panellists include Josh Basseches (Director & CEO, Royal Ontario Museum), Sara Diamond (President, OCADU), Stephan Jost (Michael and Sonja Koerner Director and CEO, Art Gallery of Ontario) and Heidi Reitmaier (Executive Director & CEO, MOCA). This discussion will be moderated by Sara Angel (Founder & Executive Director, Art Canada Institute).
There will be an introduction by Deepali Dewan, an art historian with a special interest in the visual cultures of South Asia. She is a Senior Curator at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Associate Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Toronto, and is affiliated with the Centre for South Asian Studies. She is also part of the Toronto Photography Seminar, a group of scholars from Ontario institutions who read, produce and edit collaborative research concerning the history and theory of photography.
#MeToo & the Arts takes place Wednesday, September 26 at the Royal Ontario Museum (Samuel Hall Currelly Gallery—Level 1). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The discussion will last from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Cash bar available.
