Growing your own food at home just got easier thanks to the Queen West BIA’s new project, Resiliency Gardens and Recipe Book.
In an effort to help fight the increasing challenge of food security and support local small businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Queen West BIA will be providing 300 FREE starter grow kits to the Queen West community along with recipes from 10 neighbourhood restaurants. Inspiration for the project came from Victory Gardens – vegetable, fruit, and herb gardens that were grown in public parks and spaces during World War I.
The kits will be available in early to mid-June and include three seed packets, two seedlings, two starter pots and saucers, a grow bag, soil, and a book of recipes from local chefs (each chef who provided a recipe will also receive an honorarium). Participating restaurants include 416 Snack Bar, Basil Box, Buono Toronto, HotBlack Coffee, La Palette, Maiz, Mi Taco Taqueria, My Roti Place, Parka, and Saffron Spice Kitchen.
