Can we find opportunity in crisis? How about pleasure in work?
Next week, Detroit-based social justice facilitator, doula/healer, and pleasure activist adrienne maree brown launches Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good. The book unleashes a series of mind-altering essays that question why social activism is viewed as arduous work. It challenges us to think differently about a variety of subjects, from sex work to climate change, from race and gender to sex and drugs. How can we make change in a way that feels positive and good? How can we tackle the issues and problems of our times with gusto and hope for the future? brown will open up about her book and forge a discussion about how we can form a new narrative around pleasure and activism.
This book launch takes place at Lula Lounge (1585 Dundas St. W) on May 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Free. Find out more here.
