TAIWANfest, Canada’s largest English/Mandarin bilingual cultural festival, is returning this week for three days of Taiwanese food, music, film, performances, and more.
Continuing the festival’s “Dialogues of Asia” series, this year’s theme—Riding the Waves with Vietnam—celebrates diversity by exploring the roles of women in society, interracial and cross-cultural marriage, and the concept of an adopted homeland. Highlights include the Celebrate Women Concert, featuring Taiwanese composer Cin Cin Li and the TAIWANfest symphony orchestra; the Friendship Kitchen, where you’ll find chefs from Taiwan and Vietnam cooking alongside local chefs from Toronto; the “Let’s Savour Taiwan” soy sauce laboratory; and a Taiwanese glove puppet workshop.
TAIWANfest takes place Friday, August 23, to Sunday, August 25, at Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay W.). Admission is free!
