It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since Major Tom drifted into space forever. David Bowie would have turned seventy years old on Sunday, and The Royal Cinema (608 College St.) is celebrating in style with a screening of the legendary performer’s first “death” – his final performance as Ziggy Stardust at London’s Hammersmith Odeon Theater in 1973.
On Sunday Jan 8th, the birthday bash will begin at 7 p.m. with a selection of amazing BBC-shot Bowie footage, followed by a high-def version of the Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars concert film at 8. The film features a smattering of behind-the-scenes footage, along with performances of some of Bowie’s biggest hits, including “Ziggy Stardust,” “Changes,” “Space Oddity,” and “Suffragette City.”
Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door (they’re going fast, so pick them up sooner rather than later). The night will also include a giveaway, with prizes from June Records, June Croken: Hairdresser on Fire, and Monarch Tavern.
