Did you see Argo? I mean, probably, because it had an all-star cast, won Best Picture at the Oscars, and, oh yeah, it was FREAKIN’ AWESOME. Anyways, you probably also know that the Ben Affleck-directed drama was based on a true story (which makes it all the more amazing). Well, what if we told you that you could watch a movie that tells the real version? With the actual people who were involved?
Our Man in Tehran is the real life Argo. The Canadian documentary, which premiered to a great response at TIFF last week, tells the true story of Canada’s integral part in the Iranian Hostage Crisis (which, unfortunately, Argo kind of skims over). Going into greater detail about the political state of Iran at the time, and thus explaining why the hostages were taken in the first place, the film is super informative and interesting. It was made by Toronto filmmakers Larry Weinstein and Drew Taylor, and features interviews with many of the real life key players involved. SO COOL! We saw this film and can say it is definitely a must-see.
Our Man in Tehran opens at the TIFF Bell Lightbox (350 King St. W.) this Friday, Sept. 20. Bonus: At Friday’s 6:30pm show, you can catch the co-directors, plus former CBC reporters Carole Jerome and Joe Schlessinger (who were also interviewed for the film), doing a Q&A.
Learn the TRUE story about Canada’s role in this iconic hostage rescue! Watch the REAL Argo. Oh, Canada!
