THURSDAY JANUARY 31
8pm. Amos the Transparent + Erik Lind & the Orchard + Laurent Bourque @ Quai des brumes, 4481 St-Denis. Ottawa’s own Amos the Transparent will headline this rock-filled evening, alongside Montrealers Erik Lind & The Orchard and Laurent Bourque. $10 at the door.
8pm. Montreal Crowd Karaoke @ MainLine Theatre, 3997 St-Laurent. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING is more satisfying than singing along at the top of your lungs to your favourite song in such a big group that no one can hear how awful (or totally amazing) your singing voice is. Fact. Choose songs, sing along and dance your face off at MainLine’s Crowd Karaoke (just, the best idea ever.) $6. Booze is not available on the premise though, so pre-gaming (or secret flasks…shhh I never said that) may be key.
10pm. Weekly Live Bluegrass Tunes @ Grumpy’s, 1242 Bishop. When was the last time you spent a Thursday night with a gin in your hand and the twang of a banjo in your ear? Exactly. Grumpys’ regular collection of fiddlers, singers and banjo players are exceptional, and so are the bar staff. Get on it!
THURSDAY JANUARY 31 TO SATURDAY FEBRUARY 2
Igloofest Weekend #3 @ Jacques-Cartier Quay. Have you pulled on your fluorescent onesie and braced the cold temperatures in the name of dance yet? This is your second last chance to do so before 2014 (well, in an official setting, that is. What you do in the privacy of your own backyard is entirely up to you.) Check out this week’s amazing line-up of international DJs who whole-heartedly want to make you dance so hard you … warm-up. Truth. Individual evening tickets are $18.50. Full ticket information is available here.
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1
7pm. The Board Meeting: Sk8 Art Show @ Greenlight Gallery, 3878 St-Laurent. Check out the opening evening of a new and very cool photography + art show presented by Greenlight Gallery: a showcase of the skateboard scene in Montreal! A full list of the artists involved can be found here.
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1 TO THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7
Poutine Week @ Participating Montreal restaurants. Of course Montreal has an annual Poutine Week, are you kidding!? Curds, gravy and fries reach whole new levels of appetizing during this week of non-stop, reduced-price poutine across the city. Check out the list of participating restaurants, and do keep in mind the event’s tagline “Start Jogging!” lest you should fall prey to a gravy-girth. Yeah, I said it.
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 2
9pm. Prince Club w/ Cadence Weapon DJ Set, Kaytranada and more @ Cabaret Underground, 1403 St-Elisabeth. A gang of great DJs will host a dance party supreme this Saturday night, headlined by Montreal duo Prince Club. $7.
