The monthly Gladstone Flea returns August 19th. We’re so enamoured with this eclectic and chill Sunday market that once again we’re helping to curate the vendors.
As a little teaser, we’re profiling some of the local talent that will be featured at this month’s flea. Meet Lisa Inglis of CAMP Skincare: a small batch luxury skincare line that uses 100% natural plant-based ingredients to help give you a healthy glow. Coconut Beach Facial Scrub, Dreamcatcher Youth Serum, Desert Island Wonder Balm: CAMP products are like taking a mini trip to an exotic island before you make a mad dash for the 8am streetcar.
In a nutshell, what do you make?
I make high-performance, natural skincare products.
What inspired you to start CAMP?
Necessity. Being unable to find products that were minimal in ingredients but big on results. Most natural products still have dyes, fragrances and preservatives and those irritate my skin. Wondering if it was possible to make a cleaner, more potent product lead me down the path of chemistry, herbalism, aromatherapy and, finally, beauty.
Did you go to camp as a kid? Is that where the name comes from?
Nope, though I’ve spent my fair share of time in a tent, travelling around on a shoestring. To me, ‘CAMP’ signifies both minimalism and natural knowledge. In life, as in nature, it’s important to pack light but pack smart and that’s what CAMP’s all about – living light and using nature’s tools.
What do you love most about your creative process?
Transformation. Taking an idea, a plant, an oil, and transforming it into something entirely different with a new purpose.
Can you share with us five favourite places in Toronto? (venues, parks, whatever!)
1. Herbs & Nutrition (Health store at Bloor/Bathurst with unreal prices and selection)
2. Buddha’s Vegetarian (The best spot in town for massive portions of mock meat dishes – yum)
3. CYCL (Spin studio at Wellington/Bathurst. Their bikes move side-to-side and their instructors are hands-down the best)
4. Sam James Coffee Bar (a little nook on Ossington. It’s chill and the coffee’s always great)
5. The Waterfront (Sometimes I forget Toronto even has a waterfront but I just moved closer and it’s so serene and beautiful. I like to do my runs along here early in the morning when it’s just me and the boats)
The Gladstone Flea is a free event open to the public. The upcoming flea is Sunday, August 19th, 10AM – 5PM, at 1214 Queen Street West.
