At Circa Nightclub on Wednesday night, Lia Sophia debuted its latest eye-catching baubles – and showed Toronto why this reasonably priced brand is the world’s largest direct seller of fashion jewellery. Lia Sophia clearly has its finger on the pulse of what women want; many of the new pieces are bold and daring, rich in jewel tones and precious stones, but there’s still a variety of timeless hematite and black-and-white for the traditionalist. From the latest installment in the Cape Town series, the chunky Bohemian necklace, a glamazon statement piece in seafoam green, had everyone pointing and hovering. While the enamel is also available in black and white, the chic seafoam showcased is a calming contrast to the heavy matte gold, allowing the raw beauty and adventure of the South African coastline to shine through. Also attracting attention was the fierce modern edge of the Oval Link Pavé bangles and Safari Zebra rings. In hot pink, they’re a fresh and youthful pairing, perfect for giving a flicker of punky girlishness without looking like a teen.
From the Kiam Family Signature Collection, I fell in love with the Mosaic Stretch bracelet, a colourful and imaginative cuff of over 100 different jewel-toned shapes. I’d pair it with the elaborate gold Lisa necklace, a string of a dozen different glittering chains, in-step with this season’s mix and match movement. With a diverse selection of innovation and classic ingenuity, Lia Sophia’s pieces really compliment the wearer’s personality, so it’s no surprise that my favourite was the necklace I got to wear home. The dazzling thread of abalone, jade, jasper, mother-of-pearl and tiger’s eye dubbed the ‘Maggie’ is earthy and eclectic – just like me.
