British It-Band of the moment La Roux hits Metropolis this Friday, and if you’re lucky enough to have scored tickets, you’re in for a treat. Three months after their electrifying (and very sold-out) performance at Studio Just for Laughs, the electro-pop duo has done it again. Why am I writing about a sold out show? Partly to rub it in, and partly because singer Eleanor Jackson’s boyish, pixie, electro-nerd style is soooo irresistible. As the performance half of La Roux (bandmate Ben Langmaid prefers to hide in the studio) she’s been selling out venues all the way down the East Coast. Tickets are still available for the European leg of the Gold Tour, so you’ll have to head to Hamburg to catch a glimpse of this synth-pop fireball. With opening act Yes Giantess.
SNEAK IN IF YOU CAN: 9pm Metropolis – 59 Ste-Catherine E.
AND IF YOU CAN’T: La Roux After Party @ Velvet
For those of you without tickets, all is not lost. The La Roux after party In for the Kill (check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ1Mi77nogQ&feature=player_embedded) will be held at Old Montreal hot spot Velvet. Mary Hell and DJ Mini will provide the soundtrack, which promises to be La Roux-heavy. For the young’uns, be sure to steal your older sister’s ID, as this event is 21+.
$10. 10pm. 21+.
Velvet – 420 St-Gabriel, corner Notre-Dame.
