There’s a reason why celebrities, artists, and writers flock to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and even the lesser known (but equally special!) islands of Massachusetts: They’re beautiful, peaceful, and inspire both relaxation and creativity.
Looking at the photos above, can’t you smell the sea salt air? Feel the ocean breeze and hear the boats creaking? We want to be sitting on a dock sipping a coffee and watching the day float by RIGHT NOW.
If we could snap our fingers, here’s where we’d go:
The Cottages and Lofts of Nantucket
Seriously, how dreamy does this look? We would LOVE to wake up right on the wharf. Enjoy leisurely breakfasts, go for a bike ride to explore the neighbouring quaint and picturesque towns, and get lost in a great novel on the beach. OMG, take us here!
Oak Bluffs Inn in Martha’s Vineyard
Approaching a special anniversary? Everyone who has stayed at Oak Bluffs will tell you that it is a lovely and restful retreat. With a quick bike ride to the beach and short walk to cute restaurants, you’ll forget your city stresses and quickly immerse into island time.
Misery Island
Sounds spooky, but this scenic wee island is a hiker’s paradise. In the early 20th Century, Misery Island was the prime destination for well-to-do Bostonites and New Yorkers who fancied a seaside vacation. Lace up your boots, get your camera ready, and enjoy the gifts of mother nature that abound on this gem of land.
Cuddyhunk Fishing Club
In the 1800s, this was a fishing club—but today, it is a beautifully renovated B&B with ocean view rooms. It’s utterly charming, and far away from everything. Set on eight acres overlooking Vineyard Sound, this is where you go to just slowwww down. Eighty-six residents and more wildflowers than you could ever count.
Over the past month, we’ve been on a mission to uncover all the amazing ways to explore Massachusetts—and frankly, we’ve shocked ourselves with just how much there is to see and do! We’ve told you about festivals, food, outdoor adventures, rustic getaways, and the impressive arts and cultural scene. You gotta go! If the summer is quickly coming to an end, make a romantic getaway for the fall! The hiking trails will be beautiful! And it will still be warm enough to dangle your feet off a dock if you make a plan for September!
