From the content moderators that scrub our social feeds (#freethenipple) to the growing role of tech companies in urban planning (and how that affects WOC), there is no question that digital technologies are increasingly dominating our lives. How can we ensure that this technology is working for us, and not against us? How can we assess what we’re consuming, and how can we be more responsible with what we’re putting into the digital landscape? 

When Algorithms Disrupt Social Justice, hosted by Toronto Public Library, is coming to Harbourfront Centre on September 21. At the panel, Norma Möllers, Sarah T. Roberts and Adwoa Afful will discuss how we can better use technology for social justice, and not social harm. This event is part of a larger series covering the impact of tech on civil society, as part of the 2019 Word on the Street Festival.
