Watch some of Canada’s most exciting emerging women and nonbinary musical artists take the stage at the 29th Honey Jam concert! On August 29 at TD Music Hall, in addition to performances from a brand new cohort of Honey Jam artists, audiences can look forward to special tributes to Beyoncé and Sarah McLachlan.

The lineup for Honey Jam’s 2024 artist development program was announced last month. The roster of artists hails from across Canada, and represents a range of musical genres. The artist development program is described as a “welcoming, supportive sisterhood and a safe space for young women to not only learn about the industry but also to be vulnerable, to build self esteem and long-lasting relationships.”

The artists included in this year’s program, and performing at the upcoming concert, include Toronto-based artists Hybrid Tee, Katrina Anastasia, Margaret Williams, Cerae, TT, Kiza, earth 2 tiffany, Elisha, and Aashika Reddy, as well as Canadian artists Kat Valentine, Kateryna Grace, Rebecca Sichon, Nadia Haddad, Qimora, Néhémie, and Chloe Brodie. More information about the featured artists is available on Honey Jam’s website.

Honey Jam has been nurturing Canadian women in music since it was founded in 1995 by Ebonnie Rowe. When we spoke to Rowe in 2020, Honey Jam’s 25th anniversary year, she recalled the energy at the very first Honey Jam concert. “We had female DJs and female rappers, breakdancers, and a lot of people in the crowd had never seen that before…women didn’t feel comfortable that they’d be taken seriously or respected. There were a lot of wide eyes at the talent these women had.”

Since that first concert, Honey Jam has helped huge talents like Nelly Furtado, Jessie Reyez, Jully Black, Anjulie and Haviah Mighty get their start in the industry.

This month’s Honey Jam concert will be hosted by Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe and will be recorded by CBC Music to air at a later date. Audiences can look forward to a group of Honey Jam alums performing a tribute to Beyonce’s latest album, Cowboy Carter. And in honour of the 30th Anniversary of Sarah McLachlan’s debut album and her induction into the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, Honey Jam alum Leah Holtom will perform the song “Angel”, dedicated to all the innocent lives lost in conflicts around the world. There will also be performances by alum MADLADY, DJ MelBoogie, and Killa Kels.

Proceeds from the concert’s ticket sales will go back into the artist development program, which provides mentoring, education, performance and networking opportunities.
