Artistic identity is made up of many stories. Canadian identity, too, is made of many “inscriptions” and embedded stories.
Whether Canadian-born or naturalized, permanent residents or ex-pats, the artists featured in Aga Khan’s new exhibit, HERE: Locating Contemporary Canadian Artists, carry experiences from multiple geographies and generations. Artists include Babak Golkar, Jamelie Hassan, Nujalia Quvianaqtuliaq, Sukaina Kubba, Zadie Xa, Sharlene Bamboat and many more.
Building a future means recognizing complex histories, finding spaces to grow and allowing conversations to continue. Their works may point to a pathway for both individuals and nations.
HERE runs July 22 to January 1 at Aga Khan Museum (77 Wynford Drive). Get tickets here.
