As much as I would love to not comment on the whole Heidi Montag plastic surgery fiasco in wake of more serious tragedies like Haiti, I haven’t been able to turn on my television this week without hearing yet another debate on her recent decision to have 10 surgeries in one day. Naturally, I’d like to join in.
Everyone is clearly baffled and disturbed by Montag’s failure to see that she was a beautiful girl before injecting and implanting herself. I loved Lauren Conrad’s goofy girl-next-door best friend when she was first introduced to us in season one of the Hills and although it was obvious from the beginning that she loved attention, her antics are no longer cute and she really can’t sing.
The latest controversy surrounding her recent transformation into Malibu Barbie has her blaming the MTV Aftershow and other media outlets for her insecurity, forcing her to upgrade her breasts to DDD and alter various other body parts. Barely able to move her face, Montag told Access Hollywood that she didn’t like the way she looked because blogs and after shows continually made fun of her features. She apparently had no choice but to spend whatever was left over of her savings after making her recent gem of an album on further altering her body.
The Aftershow’s Jessi Cruickshank and Dan Levy have since fired back, saying that they do not condone plastic surgery on young stars and see Montag’s claims as yet another attempt to get press.
While I don’t doubt that Hollywood has had some sort of impact on her image, she is sooner or later going to have to take responsibility for her own mistakes and insecurities.
