Africa is coming to Toronto this weekend.
“Canada has provided a space for African immigrants to practice their culture as well as embrace Canadian ideals and values of multiculturalism, volunteerism and spirit of adventure,” notes Nadine McNulty, Artistic Director of Batuki Music Society. “African artists are constantly evolving in this new environment, keeping their traditions as well as incorporating a Canadian element.”
To celebrate this, Habari Africa Festival is a multi-disciplinary music and arts event that displays the rich and diverse cultures of Africa. The festival will display an authentic African experience through presentations and workshops that celebrate the uniqueness, wealth and diversity of African music, dance, arts and culture. Highlights include performances by Diblo Dibala & Matchatcha, Noumoucounda Cissoko, and Nhapitapi Mbira, as well as a free screening of Two Ways to Heaven.
