Fact: Montreal gets really stinkin’ cold in the winter. Despite rabbit-fur-this and goose-down-that, my roommate and I still seem to find ourselves huddled on the couch, whining about the food in our fridge (some old kale and a bottle of ketchup), and accordingly, the distance of the grocery store from our apartment (only four blocks). Until one desperate winter evening, while scouring the interwebz for anything remotely veggie-friendly and deliverable, we discovered a Montreal service that quite literally left us both staring at each other, exclaiming “this exists!?!”
Actually, À La Carte Express has existed since 1996. Over 70 restaurants in Outremont, Plateau/Mont-Royal, downtown, Westmount and NDG have posted special delivery menus (varying slightly from the menus found at the restaurants themselves) on À La Carte Express’ well-structured website. The selection is incredible: popular Montreal Thai, Cantonese, Mexican, vegan, sushi and BBQ restaurants (and more) are all up for grabs. After you’ve chosen and ordered a meal, À La Carte Express will go to the restaurant in question, pick up your food and deliver it to your door. Swoon.
The best part is that delivery wait times are listed for each restaurant before you select items to order, and payment may be made online with a major credit card or in cash when the food is delivered. Service hours vary by neighbourhood.
Creator(s) of this service, whoever you are, call me! I’m fairly certain we are soul mates.
Don’t be left out in the cold!
