January 15th and 16th, Studio 303 presents Infractions, a collection of six short dance pieces by Montreal-based choreographer, dancer and aerialist Gabrielle Martin. Infractions explores confinement, resistance and dependency through highly physical dance, defined by partner-work and highlighted with interactive designs, including an aerial apparatus. The Vancouver-born Martin began her performance career as a circus artist (think stilt walking and fire eating) at the Edmonton International Street Buskers Festival and Closing Olympic Ceremonies in Torino, Italy, before moving to Montreal to found choreography troupes the Floating Seed and Pulse & Puppet. Last fall, a Martin’s dance video Box was a top ten finalist in the Sadler’s Wells Global Dance Competition, as international competition for dance on film. This summer, Martin will perform Box at the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival.
