Frontier is a photographic and text based installation that records a trip artist Neal Rockwell took to the Mexican fishing village of El Canal.
This documentary project, presented at Galerie Rye (1331A Ste-Catherine E), investigates the daily lives of the fishing village’s inhabitants, and how they are being transformed by a massive tourist resort development. Frontier approaches issues surrounding borders and migration, poverty, class and the law as well as investigates the personal stories of people caught up inside the vast and often dehumanizing forces of international politics and capital. The vernissage also doubles as a fundraiser for Immigrant Workers’ Centre, a social justice organization that offers resources and support to immigrants, refugees and people without status.
The vernissage will be followed by a night of live music, DJs and dancing, with musical performances by Hrair Hratchian, Alden Penner, Jamie Thompson and the Hidden Words.
Frontier Vernissage: Friday, November 5th at 18:00 @ Galerie Rye – 1221A Ste-Catherine E (Metro Beaudry)
