Who’s in the mood for a dramatic and gossipy British story about wealth, ego, and promises heaps of romantic tension? Dakota Johnson stars as Anne Elliot in Persuasion, adapted from Jane Austen’s classic novel and directed by Carrie Cracknell.
Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne is a non-conforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth (Cosmo Jarvis)—the dashing one she once sent away—crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances. Things get even more complicated when William Elliot (Henry Golding) arrives, and Anne must decide if she’ll pursue the charming heir to the family fortune.
We adored Dakota Johnson in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter, and can’t wait to see her in this dramatic period piece.
Releasing July 15, Persuasion is sure to be a big hit this summer that will appeal to Jane Austen enthusiasts, Bridgerton fans, as well as Downton Abbey diehards, which when combined makes up a loyal audience that is surely in the billions.
Watch the trailer—we love the side-eye that Johnson gives the camera.
Persuasion arrives to Netflix on July 15.
