This summer, you can camp in one of Ontario’s most beautiful parks even if you don’t have a car, thanks to a project called Parkbus. A part of Transportation Options, a not-for-profit that promotes sustainable systems of getting from A to B, the Parkbus is making it easier than ever to access Algonquin Park’s big, beautiful stretch of unspoiled wilderness . The bus, which costs $69.90 for a return ticket, leaves from three different locations in Toronto (near College subway station, Dufferin & Bloor, and Glencairn subway station) beginning on July 7th. We bet it’s more fun than the Hampton Jitney and the bus to summer camp combined!
Every weekend, there’s a trip with slightly different timing, meaning you can find a weekend that works for you. One way tickets are also available if you feel like taking off for the summer. Once you reach the park, the bus drops passengers off at a variety of different locations, including the Wolf Den bunkhouse, where bus passengers receive 10% off. With a sauna, BBQ pits, and kitchens, the camping-phobic can enjoy serenity sans portage. If you’re more the adventurous type, the bus will leave you and your gear at various points of access around the park. There are special routes for canoers and backpackers that drop you at ideal locations, near outfitters and trailheads. Parkbus makes it easy, giving you all the info you need, whether you’re looking to camp, stay somewhere with a roof over your head, or even buy an all-inclusive park package.
