From waking up to those distinctive chimes and Andy Barrie’s soothing voice on sunny mornings as a kid about to go to the zoo, to scowling at our parents over cheerios with Metro Morning in the background, to those-more seminal-long drives out of the city, sipping too-hot Tim Horton’s while he talked us on to bigger and better things, Andy Barrie was as integral a part of any Toronto childhood as Vinyl Cafe, shivering at ice rinks, and a pile full of left-handed mittens.
Well, it’s the end of an era-host Andy Barrie will say his final farewell on Monday, March 1st-when new kid Matt Galloway interviews him, and takes the reins. It’s still difficult to us to hear Barrie’s comforting baritone without feeling twinges of panic that we’re late for work, but it’s harder to imagine the world of radio without him. Stop by CBC Broadcast Centre at 250 Front St. W at 9 am for a special farewell broadcast following the presentation-take your parents, then take the morning off to buy them brunch and reminisce about your favourite mornings as a kid.
