Full disclosure: as a teen, I worked at the A&W in Yorkdale Mall, and I loved it. From elderly European customers attempting to order booze (root beer was a source of major confusion), to indulging in left over burger patties and fries at the end of my shifts, it was a fine way to spend my evenings and weekends. I still fondly remember being picked up after work by my then 16 year old boyfriend (he was a year older, it was a BIG deal guys) and strollin’ through the mall holding hands, thinking up ways to spend my small fortune earned as a cashier. It was basically a dream job.
I’ve had a soft spot for A&W ever since, and never miss an opportunity to grab a Teen Burger (with EXTRA EXTRA cheese) when I feel deserving of a lunchtime treat. It’s been great to watch the Can-owned business grow in recent years, and take on more responsibility to deliver higher grade meal options.
