There comes a time in every young lady’s life when she leaves behind her wild wild ways and blossoms into a grown-up with a mortgage or cat. But….how can you tell when one has made this transition? There is one very obvious way: take a look at the walls in her home.  Are they crowded in a collage of magazines pages, postcards and masking tape? Or, is there real art in real frames (dollar store doesn’t count).

At the supple age of 28, I feel ready to take the leap into adulthood by purchasing, collecting and displaying original art.

My first step was getting some cherished family photos professionally framed at Akasha. It was stunning to see all the different finishes of frames (there are, like, 5 types of brushed silver #WhoKnew) and debate the pros and cons of shadowboxes, latte in hand. #AllGrowdUp

Time to start purchasing art! Over the last few weeks I’ve been giddily doing research and looking for pieces that speak to me or make me smile. Pieces that will grow with me, regardless of where I chose to live next. Pieces with captivating stories imagined by intriguing artists. During my search, I stumbled upon Saatchi – an online art gallery with a beautiful and extensive catalogue of artists from all around the world.

Featuring a wide selection of original paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and mixed media collages, Saatchi has quickly become my favourite arty resource. They showcase and support established and emerging talent, but what I like most, is that I have the option of starting small and working my way up. There’s something for every type of buyer and art enthusiast, with many gorgeous prints priced in the $60-$100 range.
