The first of a new summer concert series to benefit Rob Dyer’s organizations Dream.Love.Cure & Skate 4 Cancer took over the 6th floor of swanky Queen West Burroughs Lofts last Friday night. With the view from The Burrough’s rooftop party patio, we boogied down for a great cause in style. Typically some passersby peer past velvet ropes, clipboards, security guards and people judging your shoes, and glimpse into the entrance to VIP soirees, but one of the fun aspects of this was anyone with $10 (or a pre-bought ticket) to spare for cancer-fighting causes could roll in.
The event was also to celebrate C1RCA and West 49 recently donating $100,000 dollar dollah bills to the Dream.Love.Cure Centre, coming to downtown Toronto very soon. Exciting! Can’t wait to see what they have up their sexy tattooed arm-sleeves! In the words of hilarious Mr. Dyer and his crew, they’re reviving some of their old ways for the summer, in which they would “Meet up, watch bands, drink PBR and dance to songs by Pharrell. Those were fun times, aside from the American Apparel headbands/giant scarves/ball-crushingly tight jeans, and it’s time we bring them back, minus the lingering acne/total lack of social skills/crippling self-doubt.”
The Wooden Sky, Dusted and Great Bloomers played rockin’ sets with big covers by Springsteen and The Beach Boys thrown in, and DJ Johnny Hockin made everyone happy and sweaty from dancing. And you remember those overly-generous hooligans Dudebox? Yeah, they were there. And so were Dream.Love.Cure x Blue Jays mashup tanks, tees and hoodies! So dope.
