We know you’re all busy pulling together costume pieces and carving pumpkins and setting up your horror movie lineup but amidst the Halloween frenzy happening this weekend, take some time out for upArt!
No traditional art fair, upArt brings together artists, curators and galleries to transform the second floor of the Gladstone Hotel into a series of site-specific contemporary art installations.
This year’s exhibition, For What It’s Worth: Curios, Collections and Counterfeits, explores ideas around the collecting and value we place on objects we covet, asking the questions of what is real, what is worthy, and how do we attribute value?
In the Art Bar, Terry Tanner’s Trading Post will be set up for people to meet and exchange all kinds of material and immaterial goodies. Artwork, family heirlooms, grandma’s china, Canadian Tire money, your best advice, freaky folktales – anything goes! All traders, hoarders, hustlers and dealers welcome.
On exhibit, Bev Hisey’s fiber works will be set up throughout the Cafe, while Jonathan Demme’s Candid Aspirations will be displayed in the third and fourth floor galleries.
Participating galleries include Circuit Gallery, Gendai Gallery/BAGART, Narwhal Art Projects, and Galerie PUSH.
Admission: $5 (purchase tickets online at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/967352377)
Exhibition Dates & Hours: Friday, Oct. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 31 from 12-6 pm
