Comic fans across Toronto will be buzzing with excitement this weekend. From June 17-19, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival is returning to the Toronto Reference Library with their most comprehensive lineup of programming to date. And it’s all free to attend!
This celebration of comics and their creators is a lovely opportunity to immerse yourself in the art form and connect with other comic lovers. This year will be extra special — not only is it the 20th anniversary of the festival, but it will also be the first ever hybrid edition. In addition to an exciting weekend of in-person events, from June 18-26 you can look forward to unique virtual programming and a digital marketplace — a one-stop-shop for comic fans to buy from their favourite publishers and artists.
You won’t want to miss the massive exhibition happening over the weekend. Amidst the sprawling stacks of the Toronto Reference Library, there will be hundreds of booths that any comic lover would appreciate. You can expect a diverse range of small presses, as well as independent cartoonists, artists and illustrators from Canada and beyond. Those eager for an autograph can even line up to meet their favourite creators.

You can also look out for some fun (and free) panel discussions and workshops. From spotlights on rising stars in the comic world, to explorations of science fiction and queer narratives, to how-to illustration workshops, there’s a little something for everyone.
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival has a legacy of highlighting talented creators and bringing together a community with a deep appreciation and passion for the art of comics. Starting off with only 600 attendees in 2003, it has grown into a beloved annual event with thousands of people in attendance.
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival runs from June 17-19 in person, and June 18-26 online. See the full list of events and exhibitors on their website.
