In the wake of his death there have been many wonderful tributes to Robin Williams—expressions of praise for him as a performer and person, outpourings of thanks for what he gave us, and important reminders that mental illness is a real bitch. It’s been pretty damn bleak.
Which is why Sunday’s screening of Mrs. Doubtfire to celebrate Williams’ life and benefit the Toronto Distress Centre sounds just perfect, to us. Celebrate Robin Williams’ comic legacy, contribute towards aid for those suffering from depression and other mental illness, and decompress from a week that has featured horrifying news from Ferguson and the loss of both Williams and Lauren Bacall, on top of the usual stresses of life. WOOF, to this week. Let’s kick it out Doubtfire-style.
Mrs. Doubtfire kicks off at the Stephen Bulger Gallery (1026 Queen St. W) at 7pm. Seating is limited, and a second screening at 9:30 may be added due to demand. If you cannot make the event and would like to donate to the Toronto Distress Centre, you can do so here.
