Unlike so many of the stuffy film fest parties, the Crankyfest bash was held in a covert office space in a loft on Bathurst and felt more like a lively house party.
Founded by Canadian actresses Liane Balaban, Vanessa Matsui, and Jenna Wright, it wasn’t too surprising that Crankyfest hosted nearly as many Canadian talent and film industry people as the Canadian Film Centre BBQ.
The cast of The Animal Project was in attendance, as was actress Rachel Blanchard (’90s teens will remember her as Cher from theClueless TV series), actor Joshua Close, screenplay writer Elan Mastai (The F Word), Carrie-Lynn Neales, Amanda Brugel, and SO MANY MORE!
Beyond munching on cranky cupcakes and decorating our YoYo FroYo, the Mayors of Crankytown (Balaban, Matsui, and Wright) stood on a sofa to hush the crowd and project three of the winning Crankyfest videos, one of which shows filmmaker Jay Baruchel talking about discovering tampons as a young boy. Hey, YOU should make a short film about menstruation for next year’s fest!
It was a terrific way to cap off TIFF 2013 late night revelry while also giving back to a great cause!
Crankytown is the world’s only multi-platform property dedicated to menstruation education. Check out the super cool interactive website and find out how you can purchase a Period Kit to help HURU International.
