Age: 24
What do you do? Tax accountant
What do you love most about where you live? Poutine.
Your best friend is coming in to town for one day:
Where do you take them shopping? TNT (Westmount) and Reborn (Old Montreal) are great spots for higher end clothes and shoes. For local designers, there is Three Monkeys (downtown). My dad’s company, Foxy Jeans, has several retail spots around the city, and they’ve got great fitting denim at really reasonable prices.
Where would you spend a sunny Saturday? We’d start off going for breakfast, probably at Beauty’s or L’Avenue, then maybe go for a walk around the mountain. End up finding a terrace to get a few pitchers of sangria. Terrasses Bonsecours in Old Montreal makes an amazing blue sangria that I love.
Where do you go to eat dinner? Too many places to name! My go-to spots are Ginger (plateau), the Taverne (Westmount and NDG) and L’Orignal (Old Montreal). Bottega (Little Italy) has hands-down the best pizza in the city. A great BYOB is Jardin de Panos in the Plateau. And nothing beats a fresh Montreal bagel. St-Viateur bagels are my favourite.
What’s the bar route? I love Tokyo. There’s no bullshit to it. Fun music, cheap drinks and 2 terraces. Great people and always a great time. What more could you want?
Can you share with us a great hometown memory? Nothing says Montreal quite like the Habs. Making it to the third round of the playoffs this year was crazy. It was like the whole city was covered in a bleu-blanc et rouge blanket. There wasn’t a store without a go Habs go sign, and it was pretty rare to find a car without a flag. There were parties in the streets after every winning game, and at any given moment, you would hear chants of “ole, ole, ole, ole.” It was pretty amazing to be here then.
What one stereotype about your hometown just isn’t true? There are English people here too! I often meet people who say “oh you’re from Montreal, but you don’t speak with an accent at all!” Um yeah, cuz I’m English…
How are you celebrating Canada Day? I haven’t decided yet! Last year I went to the country with a bunch of my friends, we went to Bourbon Street North (about 40 minutes north of Montreal) and there were thousands of people. It was crazy.
