When it comes to reproductive health, there’s a growing push to curtail women’s rights. This summer, show your support to abortion providers and activists across North America by hitting up BODY PARTY on August 21 at The Great Hall (1087 Queen St. W).
This show will feature SDTC faves The Beaches and Ralph, alongside Tush, Prince Innocence, and Dae the Poet. The fundraiser will directly help women–with proceeds going to Women’s College Hospital’s Bay Centre for Birth Control in Toronto and the National Network of Abortion Funds in the U.S. There will be some sweet raffle prizes too (Feist, Ink and Water Tattoo, Province Apothecary, Kinda Sleepwear), with all proceeds going to the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada.
“Recent anti-choice wins in the southern United States have been a catalyst for increased rage, pain, nightmares, and hopelessness,” say event organizers Jaime Eisen, Madeleine Taurins, and Raffa Weyman. “But it’s not just America. Only recently did abortion become accessible in Canada, and only then for certain groups of people. It’s imperative to remember that ongoing fights for reproductive rights—and the tendency to relegate conversations surrounding abortion to the shadows—are far from over.”
