Using the cult-classic 1986 film Pretty in Pink as a launch point, the latest edition of Bechdel Tested will examine how gender and class intersect in the world of fashion. Pretty in Pink stars Molly Ringwald as Andie Walsh – a girl from “the wrong side of the tracks” – who must navigate family obligations, friendships and a controversial relationship with a rich preppy classmate.

The evening will include a panel discussion with Toronto’s fashion powerhouses: Nafisa Kaptownwala, founder of Lorde Inc., a modelling agency for people of colour; Odessa Paloma Parker, fashion editor for The Globe and Mail; stylist Tricia Hall; photographer Renata Kaveh; and designer Catherine Addai-Boadu. Watch as they blast through the myth that there are no gender barriers in ‘female’ industries.

There will be giveaways and prizes from Ardith and GHOST, among others, as well as drinks! The event takes place February 5th at the Revue (400 Roncesvalles Ave). Tickets range from $11 to $14 and are available here.
