The HS Doc Club is a rad new social club that connects people together through the power of film and documentaries while providing a platform for discussion and debate. The club gathers monthly to watch a film (followed by discussion over drinks at a nearby bar). They also have notable guests join the discussion, either from the film itself or experts in the field.

This Thursday May 19 at 8:45 pm they will be screening the groundbreaking doc, The Punk Singer, at Bloor Hot Docs.

The Punk Singer is a rousing tour of music, feminism, pop culture and the riot grrl movement through the life and work of Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of the punk band Bikini Kill and dance-punk trio Le Tigre. After the film will be a Q&A with Andrea Warner, an associate producer at CBC Music and critic on contemporary feminism and popular culture. Warner is co-host and a writer for the Pop This! podcast and zine and author of We Oughta Know: How Four Women Ruled the 90s and Changed Canadian Music.

It isn’t all about the film though – they’ll also be hosting a Zine Fair, featuring the work of some very cool, local female artists, including Emily May Rose, Sam Nolan, Marley Allen-Ash and Meg Dearlove.
