Coffee plays a very special role in my life, and the lives of my loved ones. Which means Starbucks gift cards are pretty much my favourite thing to give and receive during the holidays. With 48 unique designs to chose from (each one is created by a Starbucks partner or employee, how cool is that?) there’s a card for everybody on your list! All you gotta do is load it up with any amount from $5 to $500, and you’re all set, baby!

Aaaand, there’s a way to make your gift card even more special. Have you ever thought about pairing it with a craft or DIY so that your pals can keep enjoying your gift, even after they’ve spent their balance? That’s what the #StarbucksHoliDIY campaign is all about and we seriously dig it.

There are so many fun possibilities – from DIY snow globes to mini melted ornaments and calendars. We decided to go with a glittery frame featuring a rose detail. If you’re pressed for time, you can always skip the rosette and just go for the frame. But if you’re up for a challenge, give it a try. It’s easier than it looks, we promise.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• 1 sheet of felt (try to match to colour of your glitter)
• Scissors
• Fine glitter
• Modge Podge (I prefer the matte finish)
• Small-medium flat brush
• Hot glue gun
• Picture frame
• Paint or spray paint (matching desired colour of glitter on frame)

How we do:Step 1: If needed, use pic above as a template to cut out your rose petals – you should end up with 3 tear drop petals, five oval-shaped petals and five heart shaped petals. Optional: you can also cut out a few leaves.Step 2: Combine fine glitter and glue in a small bowl (I like to re-use soy take-out containers; they’re the perfect size!). You should end up with a ratio of two parts glitter for one part Mod Podge. You can use glitter as is, or combine a few colours for depth, like I did. I like to leave the bottom tips glitter-free as it’ll make it easier for glue to adhere later on.Step 3: Lay out a plastic bag on your work area and begin coating one side of each petal with your glitter mixture. Let dry.

Step 4: While your flower-to-be dries, throw a coat of paint (or spray paint) onto your frame. Don’t worry about making it perfect and even as most of the surface will be covered by glitter anyway!Step 5: Time to make another batch of the glitter/Mod Podge mixture! I opted for a different colour this time around and mixed together pink and silver, but you can do whatever your heart desires!

Step 6: Once fully dry, flip your petals (and leaves) and coat with your second batch of glitter mixture. Make sure to do a nice job with the edges in order to avoid touchups later on. Let dry.Step 7: Back to the frame! Combine one part glitter to one part Mod Podge and coat the frame evenly. I like to let a little bit of the paint show through, but that’s a personal choice! If you’d like to go FULL glitter, add more glitter! Let dry.Step 8: While your petals are still a teeny tiny bit wet, but not so wet that the glitter comes off on your fingers, feel free to play around with them a little bit. Pinch the tips, or slightly curve the edges of petals to make them look a little more organic.Step 9: Turn on your hot glue gun and begin gluing your petals together. First the tear drops, then the oval shapes, and lastly, the heart shapes. Take your time and try your best to emulate the shape of a natural rose. When you’re done, trim the bottom of the flower and flatten out slightly.Step 10: Glue your flower to your frame using the glue gun and stick your gift card in the frame. You’re all done!
