Let’s get two things straight: I’m not an athletic person, nor am I a morning person. So it was a mini miracle that earlier this week I was up at the crack of dawn to work out with Nike.com, the Nike Master Trainers and Canada’s sweetheart Genie Bouchard. (Only for Genie would I be up at such an hour!)
I was nervous for the workout session (I consider myself more of a stretching for cardio type), but I was up to the challenge. The workout was hard but definitely do-able, and it helped that there was tons of encouragement from the trainees and Nike Master Trainers. Because the Nike Training Club can help amateurs (like myself) but also pros (like Genie), I was able to push myself with the drills in a group workout setting.
After the workout, I caught up with Genie Bouchard to get some life and fitness advice.
Setting Specific Goals
Thinking of a general goal can be hard to set into reality. Genie suggests that having specific goals and making those daily steps will put you in the right direction. Those short-terms goals are just as important as the long-term ones.
Dealing With Obstacles
We’re all human. We’ve all dealt with challenges in our careers and personal lives. Genie compares tennis with life; there will be ups and downs. Really appreciating the good times and knowing the bad times won’t last forever are part of moving forward.
Keeping Motivated With Music!
Drake and Justin Bieber are currently on Genie’s workout mix. (Isn’t she just the best Canuck?)
