The JUNO’s are coming! Okay, March 30th is still a ways away, but anticipation for the biggest celebration in Canadian music is gearing up. This Saturday December 7th at the Horseshoe Tavern, the JUNO Concert Series “Songs From Winnipeg” will be kicking things off.
The 2014 JUNO’s are being held in Winnipeg this year, so this concert series aims to highlight the city’s rich and diverse music culture. The lineup is so fantastic I can hardly contain myself! Cuff the Duke, Nikki Yanofsky, Del Barber, Jeremy Fisher, Miranda Mulholland, Harlan Pepper,Daniel Greaves (of The Watchmen), Ridley Bent, Harlequin and more will be playing tunes from Winnipeg musical greats like Neil Young, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, The Guess Who, The Watchmen, Streetheart and The Weakerthans. How cool is that!? If you’re a fan of folk, especially Canadiana-themed folk, this is a can’t-miss night of feel-good foot stompin’.
This show supports two good causes: 1) making your eardrums happy, and 2) all the proceeds from the show will be donated to MusiCounts, Canada’s music education charity. Your $20 is going a long way.
To get you in the Canada-loving mood, here are two geographically inspired tunes from members of Saturday night’s lineup.
The boys in Harlan Pepper looking like babies, singing about the Great Lakes.
Del Barber crooning about his small-town upbringing in Manitoba.
Advance tickets are available at the Horseshoe Tavern’s front bar, Rotate This, and Soundscapes. RSVP on Facebook here.
