Last night, I was lying in bed unable to sleep. Leftover rain drops were falling intermittently from the balconies above my window, and as I readjusted my pillow for the eighth time, I thought to myself, “I really need to buy some Joni Mitchell records.” The Lady of the Canyons felt like the only one who could help quiet my thoughts enough to help me drift to sleep.
It turns out that, in the strange way late-night longings so often are, it was a prescient feeling. Today, I learned after I had my coffee this morning, is Joni Mitchell’s 70th birthday. To celebrate, the Luminato festival has created an archive of Joni content, including audio from their Joni: A Portrait in Song concert, her Q interview with Jian Ghomeshi and a talk with the New York Times. If you’re craving your own Joni fix, check it out here. If you’ll excuse me, I’m listening to the universe and going to find a record store.
