8 pm Shakespeare In High Park: Macbeth Opening Night @ High Park Amphitheatre, 200 Parkside Dr. This summer, see Shakespeare’s powerful tragedy Macbeth and early comedy The Taming of the Shrew under the stars! Both works will be playing outdoors throughout the summer on alternate nights. A Canadian Stage production in collaboration with the Department of Theatre in the Faculty of Fine Arts, York University. PWYC. Macbeth runs Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 8 pm until September 1st. The Taming of the Shrew runs Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8 pm from July 9th to Aug 31st.

7 pm “To Be Near You” Opening Reception @ #Hashtag Gallery, 801 Dundas St. W. Christina Wollesen displays her unique abstract works of art in a two-week solo exhibition. “This show is about the colours and experiences common to our existence: The sea, the sky, feelings of distance. The bold lines, colours and textures are moved by the intention to communicate immediately and directly with the beholder. The materials themselves strive for the same immediacy and accessibility: house paint, card board, found objects.” Until 11:30 pm. Exhibition runs until July 7th.

9:15 pm Christie Pits Film Festival Opening Night: That Thing You Do @ Christie Pits Park, 750 Bloor St. W. The third-annual Christie Pits Film Festival will take place on Sunday nights in July in Christie Pits Park. This year’s program, “Hits in the Pits”, explores the rise and fall of great bands. Screenings begin 15 minutes after sundown with music videos by local artists, followed by a music-related feature film. This week’s screening is That Thing You Do (Tom Hanks, 1996).
