I have come to the realization that the statement “all good things come to an end” is very true. I was walking to the office today, Starbucks in hand, when I realized that I only have 8 days left of my internship. I’m going to try not to get all weepy and sentimental ’til my last post, but it does prove that all good things come to an end.
Last week my internship tested my farm-girl strength with a Trek in the Wild. Now, this wasn’t your average day in the office, I was literally trekking through the wild. Slice TV gathered a bunch of media to do a wilderness adventure and give us a taste of what their new show 72 Hours will be like. Well, I’d have to say this was one of the best days I’ve had in a while.
I spent my day hopping like a gazelle through a swampy wooded area. By the end of the day I had basic survival skills (hells yes I can build a fire, shelter and identify edible plants) and I was soaked from head to toe. Did I mention it was raining that day? And I was moving through swamps? Oh, AND we were trying to build fires in the rain? I haven’t felt so disgusting, and pleasantly surprised with myself, in quite some time. The next day, every muscle in my body ached. (Ask Jen, I think I complained about it a good 10 times.)
Luckily, my next assignment was to head to the red carpet premiere of Now You See Me at Scotiabank Theatre. I got to hand out tickets and swag to our Shedoesthecity contest winners. Jesse Eisenberg was at the Toronto premiere, and I’m a rather big fan of the 29-year old actor. Steve Lund (who I’ve seen on Blue Mountain State and Hemlock Grove) and Paul Greene were also there to promote their new show Bitten. All three guys took their time going down the red carpet talking to fans and signing autographs.
Eisenberg made a quick speech before the movie and commented on how ridiculously nice Canadians are. “I know even if you thought the movie sucked you would tell me you liked it anyways.” Go Canada!
Last week I also got to interview a rather inspirational 14-year-old musician. Amanda Raya is a visually impaired musician who has more musical talent in her pinky finger than I do in my whole body. Not to mention she has more ambition than most people, and an uplifting personality.
I’ve been so fortunate with all of the experiences I’ve had thus far in my internship. All my friends back in my small hometown continuously tell me how jealous they are of my life, which I always thought was silly, but sometimes I can’t even believe how lucky I am.
