Pick a Wednesday, choose your dinner date, grab a bottle of wine and do the crab walk over to Fishbar! (217 Ossington Ave.)
Celebrating its second anniversary on the Ossington strip, Fishbar’s BYOW #WhateverWednesdays initiative is fun and gives back: There’s no corkage fee in exchange for a donation to Ocean Wise! For those who don’t know, Ocean Wise is about sustainable seafood and responsible fishing practices. This evening is all ’round excellent and mermaids would approve. (Minimum donation is $2.)
With a garage door that rolls up, sitting in a front table at Fishbar offers a terrific vantage point for spying great street style, or eavesdropping on couples walking by. (A favourite pastime of ours.) The sun streaming in and an easy breeze against our legs made knocking back oysters at our local haunt feel like a seaside vacation. (Okay, that’s a stretch. Point is, it’s nice.)
What else is exciting? Fishbar is introducing some new items on the menu. We had the opportunity to taste some of the fresh offerings at a special event and highly recommend you try the Ecuadorian tilapia ceviche with pineapple, chili salsa and avocado oil. That dish is the most delicious type of refreshing. We also loved the spiced lentil salad with lobster creme fraiche and micro greens in a crispy papadum; a lighter take on lobster that goes well with this spring weather.
Bring a bottle, drink a bottle. Savour the seafood and watch a street scene of Ossington unfold with the backdrop of a setting sun. A perfect Wednesday? We think so. Oh, and don’t forget to try the caramel and coffee gelato with cinnamon foam: totally orgasmic.
