DON’T FRONT LIKE YOU WOULDN’T HAVE DONE THE SAME THING. But for serious (not that I wasn’t about that title), on the off chance that you’re already thinking about what boots to buy for fall (or need some to mush around in at the cottage this summer) Manitobah Mukluks is right there with you. And for Fall 2012, the Canadian-Aboriginal footwear and accessories brand has teamed up with Aboriginal artist/activist Louie Gong, to create a limited-edition pair of warm n’ cozies.
The pebbled leather Louie Gong “Gatherers” boots are decorated with a traditional eagle design that represents strength, leadership and long-term vision. “By merging the traditional and contemporary, you can have a strong cultural identity while still exploring popular culture and style” says Gong. An artist who draws heavily on his mixed heritage background (Nooksack, Squamish, Chinese, French and Scottish), Gong continually explores cultural identity in his work, making, according to his website, “cool stuff with educational value.” Hey, they did inspire wordplay in me.
Available in two colour combos, yellow and brown or grey and black, the mukluks can be pre-ordered now for delivery starting September 15th. $299.00 on manitobah.ca. If you don’t really plan your fashion that far ahead then perhaps consider a pair for your cottage or camp life adventures. Fire’s burning! Fire’s burning! Wear Mukluks! Wear Mukluks! Draw nearer! Draw nearer! Come sing and be merry. THAT’S THE SPIRIT!
